When to Call

Common Issues and What to Do
Toothache
Most toothache causes can be cured with simple procedures that will alleviate pain and promote healing. If you are experiencing pain, don’t hesitate. The longer you wait to see your dentist, the more likely it is that the problem will progress into something more serious.
- Try to clean the tooth as much as possible. Rinse your mouth thoroughly and floss. This may help alleviate pain.
- If you notice swelling, apply a warm washcloth on the outside of your cheek
- If the pain persists, don’t wait any more than 2 days to see us.
- If you notice swelling, or have a fever you may require more urgent attention.
Tooth Loss
It’s normal for children to lose their baby teeth, but if an adult tooth is lost during an accident, contact your dentist immediately to determine how to salvage or restore it.
- If you can retrieve the tooth hold it by the crown (the part of the tooth that shows, not the root.)
- Rinse it thoroughly with warm water, but do not scrub.
- If you are able, try and put it back in place. If you can’t, put it in milk until you bring it to us.
Lost Crown
Losing your crowns can be very painful because it exposes the tooth tissue to air and temperature causing sensitivity, if this happens contact your dentist immediately.
- Apply clove oil (available at your local drug store) with a cotton ball to relieve pain.
- If you have the crown, rinse it thoroughly.
- If possible, put the crown back on your tooth by applying dental cement, tooth paste or denture adhesive to the inside of the crown.
- Bring the crown with you when you come to us.
