As your dentist, part of my job is to keep an eye on new technology that could make your visits easier, safer, and more effective. One of the biggest innovations on the horizon is artificial intelligence, or AI. While we currently utilize AI tools in a limited way, I would like to take a moment to share how this technology could impact dentistry in the future and what that might mean for you.
Diagnostics
One exciting possibility is how AI could help with early diagnosis. New programs are being developed that can scan dental X-rays and imaging to spot issues like tiny cavities, hairline fractures, or early gum disease — even before they become visible to the human eye. This would allow us to catch problems much sooner, giving you more treatment options and a better chance to avoid more complicated procedures later on.
Treatment Planning
Treatment planning could also see big improvements. Imagine having a custom dental plan that takes into account not just your teeth, but your entire dental history, health factors, and even genetics. AI systems being tested right now are learning how to create truly individualized treatment strategies, helping dentists make even more precise recommendations for braces, implants, restorations, and preventive care.
Office Visits
AI could even make some of the behind-the-scenes parts of your visit smoother. In the future, virtual assistants powered by AI might help with appointment scheduling, reminders, insurance approvals, and answering quick questions, making the experience from check-in to check-out faster and more convenient for you.
While many of these advances are still in development, I’m excited about the possibilities they offer. Technology will never replace the personal care and trust we’ve built, but I believe it can make your experience even better. I’ll be keeping a close watch on how AI continues to evolve, and as always, my priority will be choosing new tools that truly benefit your health and comfort.
