As the weather continues to get hotter as summer approaches, many of you will enjoy a glass of water and include a lemon wedge. There has been no shortage of information disseminated that speaks to the health benefits of this citric fruit. Some of these include:
- Aids in digestion
- Boosts the immune system
- Detoxifies the body
- Nourishes the skin
However, the acid in lemon juice can cause erosion of tooth enamel over time.Â
It is possible to enjoy lemon water without damaging your teeth by following these steps:
- Stick with fresh lemon juice instead of concentrated, commercial, or sweetened lemon juices.
- Use a straw to minimize contact with your teeth.
- Shorten the time you enjoy the drink – sipping may cause more damage over a longer period of time.
- Swish your mouth with plain water after drinking lemon water.
- Allow your teeth to re-mineralize by waiting two hours before you brush.
